Bluff Springs Trail
Superstition Mountains has lots of trails, and I was lucky enough to climb, and hike, a few of them. Bluff Springs Trail, was one of the more interesting. Major portions are fairly steep, and the ravines hold lots of vegetation. Food and plenty of water, meant there was more wildlife. It is only a six mile hike, but the three thousand plus accent, and decent will get one's attention.
To reach the trail head for Bluff Springs, go east from Apache Junction, AZ, on Highway 60, about four miles . Watch for the Peralta Trail signs on the north side of the road. Go north on Peralta Trail Road about seven miles. This will take you to several trail heads. Bathroom facilities are available at the parking lot, and the trail heads are well marked. Native to the area are mountain lions, black bear, javelina, snakes, and a host of other friends from mother nature. If you carry water, food, as well as any type of protection you think is appropriate, you will be fine. A hand held GPS is a must if you plan on cross country hiking. Just remember to some of mother nature you will look like a meal with desert in your back pack, and water to wash it all down. It is just part of the adventure.
