Gammons Gulch Old West Town

About thirty five years ago Jay Gammons, his family, and a few friends, began building an "Old West Town", in a barren gulch about twelve miles north of Benson, AZ. In Jay's words, "The whole area was down on me. They thought I was crazy. Now, they all want to be a part." At the present time the entire town consists of seventeen buildings, all carefully constructed to replicate old west buildings. I suspect most, if not all of them, come from Jay's movie background. From the pictures of his youth, his father, and their movie star friends, it is obvious he grew up on movie lots in Hollywood. The wall is adorned with pictures of John Wayne, Glenn Ford, John Ford, and a host of actors and actresses. Some are from the recent genre of films, since portions of many new movies, commercials, etc., have been shot on location at Gammons Gulch. With over thirty five thousand antique items, including cars, and trucks, guns, and just about anything else, it is no wonder. The guided tour is like stepping back in time. Plan on no less than four hours. I stayed seven and Jay still had many things to tell me. There is only one word to describe Jay and his town - Incredible!
